Is “Jungianism” a New Religion?

Most come for Jung the psychologist, but stay for Jung the preacher. “Jungianism”, which I differentiate from depth psychology, is a complete religion with its own pantheon of gods (the archetypes), its own eschatology (the Age of Aquarius), it’s own holy book (Liber Novus), it’s own theology (the quaternity replacing the trinity), it’s own ritual for communicating with spirits (active imagination), it’s own prophet (Jung, who is akin to Mani), and it’s own disciples (Von Franz, Johnson, Neumann, etc).

I frame it this way intentionally in order to communicate this next point: what exactly do you worship? Is God merely the unconscious creator, or the unconscious manifestation of the will to be? Is it humanity’s duty to make the unconsciousness of God conscious?

OCD and the religious function of the mind.

God is never pleased with us, so to speak, so we continue to pray (compulsions) and take His silence as proof of our damnation. We take our perpetual engagement with the 'sin' - (intrusive thoughts) as proof of our inherent evilness. Surely we will be sent to Hell, surely we will forever be reincarnated as an ever-increasingly miserable version of ourselves, and surely we will die and have lived a half-assed life.
